Game Drive Age Restriction at Kruger National Park

Children 2 to 8 years old not permitted on game drives unless a private vehicle is taken at R9700 per vehicle plus R150 per person. Dependent on the number of guests wanting to do the game drives, we could approach the reserve for special permission to allow a kid on a scheduled game drive. However, there is no guarantee our request will be granted.

Reasons, amongst others, as to why children are not allowed on game drives:

Game drives are usually done in open safari vehicles, which is dangerous as the high cries of small children sound like the cries of distressed prey to a predator. Because of the hazard of malaria, potentially, it is not advisable to take small children into the game reserve.

"There is nothing worse than having to return to the camp because of a troubled child in the middle of a game drive, or having the tranquility at a lion sighting interrupted by a screaming baby".

Babies can cry at any time and game sightings are a hushed affair.
